Bipartisanship seems to be the word of the day lately.  Sure, Americans all say they want a "bipartisan" government, yet the meaning of the word seems to have lost its meaning.  Under President Obama's administration, bipartisanship seems to mean that we all come together and do what the Democrats want.  I'm not one of those people who complain that the President didn't try and involve the GOP on the stimulus.  He in fact did make an effort.  The problem is that he underestimated the resolve of our Party.  Republicans get it now.  We understand that the last eight years marked a sharp turn away from our core principles.  We grew government, we expanded it's power, and we increased borrowing and spending.  We did this and we suffered the consequences.  Unfortunetly for the Democrats, we did in fact learn this lesson and we aren't going to go back to bad habits.  That is why (all but 3) Republicans voted against this Bill.  If by being bipartisan, the President wants our Party to enter into talks with an open mind and be willing to negotiate, that is fine but that is not what is happening.  Thankfully, Obama is at the least willing to listen to Republicans, which is more than I can say for the closed door policies of Pelosi and Reid.  One last note on this... the only thing worse than a government torn apart by partisan politics is a government ruled by one Party and one thought.  I wouldn't want our government to be 100% Democrat just like I wouldn't want it to be 100% Republican.  It is difference of opinion and different ways to solve our problems which make America great.  Don't believe me?  Ask the Cuban people how one Party rule is working out for them.

It's the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.  In addition to honoring the great accomplishments of our 16th President such as ending slavery and preserving the Union, we should take this time to reflect on our Party.  We should consider the factors that contributed to the lack of minority support for the Party that not only freed the slaves, but were the majority votes in the Senate for the Civil Rights Act.  That's a little known fact right there.  Do you know that 21 of the 27 votes against the Civil Rights Act were Democrats?  Somewhere along the line, Democrats began to treat minorities as helpless children who need the government to take care of their every need.  Instead of believing in them and helping them aspire to greatness, the Democrats instituted a "Nanny" State where handouts are given for nothing and you are rewarded for having children with no thought of how to provide for them instead of working hard and contributing to society.  No need to work hard anymore, others will work hard and when they succeed, we'll just take their money and spread it around to all of you.  There is a big difference between charity and the socialistic tendencies of the left.  As a Party, we need to embrace and encourage ambition, entrepreneurship, and investment in all forms.  Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach him to fish and he'll eat for the rest of his life.  Happy Birthday Lincoln, and sorry for letting you down.

Please take a moment to read the excellent article in Newsweek entitled "We are all Socialists Now".  Here is the link We are all Socialists Now.

Unfortunetly, we have nobody to blame but ourselves.  What got us in this current position is the fact that over the last years, Republicans have been acting like Democrats.  We have been growing government, spending and borrowing at ridiculous levels, and turning our backs on our fiscal responsibility.  Sure we seem to be the watchdog now, but can you really protect the herd once the wolves are in the pen?  We invited this situation and now we are heading down a path which was truly feared by the Founding Fathers.  What puzzles me is that Liberals do NOT want government intervening when it comes to physically protecting our lives, yet they are happy to hand over their money, businesses, and economy as a whole to the government.  The truly sad part is that this Socialist Revolution is taking place as a result of Generational Warfare.  It seems pretty unfair being that one side of this conflict is currently wearing diapers.  Let's hope they are a very forgiving bunch.
