Pardon the pun in the title of this post.  I couldn't avoid it as immature as it is.  With all due respect to the former Vice-President, PLEASE GO AWAY!  I understand that Cheney has a desire not to go down in history as a man who violated and ignored the Constitution ove ra period of eight years.  He abused the powers granted to the Vice President's office and then abused the powers he CREATED for the VP's office.  He sanctioned torture and betrayed every principle that this Nation was founded on.  Now, to add insult to injury, he is presenting himself as a Leader of the Republican Party and is giving advice on how the GOP should shape itself going forward.  Dick Cheney betrayed the Republican Party and its ideals.  Listening to him (as well as most other Republican Leaders over the last eight years) on how to "fix" the Party is like taking advice from Hitler on how to solve the crisis in the Middle East.  Every time the man opens his mouth, Americans cringe.  If you don't cringe, then you haven't been paying attention.  Now one of Cheney's biggest talking points is that the Obama Administration is making America less safe.  I'm not going to argue whether that is true or not, however, I will argue that Dick Cheney is NOT the right messenger for this talking point.  President Bush has shown himself to be the smarter of the two by the sole fact that he has kept a low profile and is avoiding criticizing or defending his administration.  The mere act of commenting on current events by either Bush or Cheney takes away the focus from the Obama Administration and its policies.  That is where we should be focusing our attention.  The Obama Administration LOVES when Cheney speaks and they can only pray that Bush will come out and create a media firestorm.  By doing so, they can move forward with liberal agendas without the proper scrutiny from the media.  Distractions are the most beloved bedfellows of Politicians.  As I often express on this site, we need NEW Leaders to take charge of the GOP and point us in the right direction.  We all look like fools every time a Republican "Leader" takes the spotlight and tries to make a case for why it is okay for America to torture.  The United States of America SHOULD NEVER TORTURE!  We can make a case for setting off a nuclear bomb in Iran if we really wanted to but it would be ridiculous to advocate that.  Why?  Doing so would potentially save American lives down the road.  Why wouldn't we do it then?  Because doing so goes against everything that we believe in.  This all being said, I don't think it would do anyone any good to bring charges against the previous Administration.  What I would prefer to see is the current Administration look to correct some of the mistakes and begin to follow the Constitution once more.  I have not seen that yet.  The President much like his predecessor, enjoys the unconstitutional powers that the Office has slowly usurped over time and unfortunately, Congress is too blind and ignorant to do anything about it.  Now let's see some fresh news faces emerge on the GOP who will shine the light on THAT!

I will have to disagree with you on this issue. Does Cheney speak for all Republicans and do I share his opinion on all issues? I would have to answer that with a resounding no, but what he has been saying on the Sunday shows is absolutely right. If you are a true Conservative and you are actually listening to what he is saying, he is saying that ... And before you go accusing Cheney of violating our constitution by torturing inmates, these people are not American Citizens, they are people captured committing acts of aggression during war and are not afforded the same rights that you and I are entitled to. Also before you criticize the former VP as the sole perpetrator of committing and approving these acts of torture, Congress also approved these methods.

The people that approved those methods of torture include the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and other Democrats in the Congress and Senate. They may be denying it now, but the record proves they knew and approved, and in some cases even asked if these methods were harsh enough.

Also, you must examine the methods of torture. I agree that... Read More ... The other thing that Cheney is saying is that he disagrees with those in the Republican Party need to moderate. I agree with him. We need to regain our Conservative values for fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, free market solutions, and smaller government. Moderation in Republicans begats mediocrity.

nd to elaborate on that, the more moderate the Republican party gets, the more we get representatives like Arlin Spector, John McCain (who came up with McCain-Feingold, a Immigration amnesty bill, and initially didn't support Bush's tax cuts), and others that support a more liberal agenda. What he is suggesting is for us to find our Reagan Conservative values and not fall into the trap Republicans need to moderate in order to get back into the majority leadership. This has been what is going on in the last eight years and we need to find our core values to return to our glory. I am not saying we need to shift to the far right to alienate independents and moderate Democrats, but just get back to conservatism as it was meant to be.

After all, if the Republicans keep moderating as they have been, what is the difference in them and the Democrats other than the degree of how liberal they are and vote? Dick Cheney is a good man, and isn't cowering in a corner. I'm proud of him for speaking up on a topic that is important to him. Too bad so many Republicans today are afraid to speak their minds. Cheney is not, and I admire that.

I seriously don't agree that Cheney shouldn't be defending himself. One could argue that one man who part of the problem could be the best man to solve since he knows what went right and what went wrong. Never torture people? Not even the people who's very first thought of the United states is the great Satan that they gladly give half the lives of all their people just to see a handful of innocent Americans die? Dick Cheney violate many laws, true. But I don't by into the whole thing that there is another way to protect out country from anything like 9/11 from happening again. The people we're up against are the kind who sneak around in cels, disguises, mosques, and give up their lives in a moments notice just to create havoc. You don't even know if your neighbor down the street is a islamic fanatic. We, and I believe the Bush Administration, had very little choice as to what action to take against this kind of threat.

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA DOES NOT TORTURE HUMAN BEINGS! To make excuses for this is ridiculous. They aren't American citizens so they don't have any rights? I thought that we established that the truth is self-evident that ALL men are created equal. And the notion that torture was the only way is, I think, arguable. Was it the absolute only way? Well, none of us are qualified to judge that. Let the perpetrators of these crimes be the ones to convince us that there was no other way whatsoever. To just accept their word that they had absolutely no other way is to show a chilling belief in the words of politcians like Cheney. Show me, don't tell me.
