Where's Our Freedom of Speech?
by Will Blakely
The left-wing media has always been known to attack those who don’t follow the same beliefs that they do by trying to exploit them as evil beings that shouldn’t be taken seriously and are harmful to the Country. Last month in the Miss USA pageant, it was no exception. A simple answer to one of the judge’s question launched an attack that is truly unbelievable.
When Carrie Prejean, who eventually received the title of first runner up, was asked the question of if she believed that all states should allow same-sex couples to marry, she gave this response: “I think that I believe a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there.” That’s it, her opinionated answer to a simple question. So why did it cause so much controversy?
First of all, let’s take a look at who asked the question. The judge who asked the question was Perez Hilton and for anyone who hasn’t heard of him, he is a notorious homosexual celebrity gossip blogger. If you were to look at the video footage of Carrie’s response you can see that he was upset with the answer that Carrie was giving. (The left don’t like to get a right answer when they think they should be getting a left one). After the pageant, Perez wrote on his website about Carrie that “She gave the worst answer in Pageant history. She lost because she’s a dumb bitch, okay…” He also went on to say that if she had won the pageant he would’ve jumped on the stage and snatched the crown from her head.
I couldn’t believe that someone was getting so much heat for simply stating their belief on a subject and because they didn’t agree with one of the judges. This makes her a dumb bitch? This made me furious. First of all I would like to say that the answer wasn’t offensive to the gay community in any way, even in her response she said that it was her opinion and that she meant no offense to anyone by saying it. Personally I agree with her. Secondly, who is Perez Hilton to get so upset about a question that asks for someone’s opinion? God forbid someone believes in the sanctity of marriage and wants to preserve it as it has been for thousands of years. What about the fact that there are millions of people across the Nation who are opposed to the act of homosexuality and other related acts? According to Mr. Hilton and the left-wing media who covered him on this story, they should be labeled as being discriminating against homosexuals for their beliefs.
Another person’s story that recently caught my attention in the left-wing media was Janeane Garofalo and what she thought of one of the biggest grassroots movements in recent times by the American people. While on Keith Olbermann’s show, she was asked about her opinion of the recent tea parties that have been going on in protest to the increased spending in Washington. Garofalo’s response to this was the Republicans, as well as Independents, who attended these tea parties were “a bunch of tea bagging rednecks…this is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up.” Excuse me, but is she being serious? Simply because people have decided to take a stand against increased government spending that makes them racist?
I’m sorry but simply because there are intelligent people out there, as well as people that are just plain sick of Washington (including Bush over the last eight years) spending billions of dollars, of our dollars lets add, then we are racist? Throwing money at a problem will never solve it, it might delay it for a little while but will never solve it, and they know this and felt that tea parties were a way to publicly display it, but according to Miss Garafolo they were holding a Klan meeting. President Obama only won the popular vote with 52% of the vote, so according to her does that mean the other 48% were racist simply because they’re not liberal? If you want to talk about racism, let us take a look at a story from the Governor’s office in New York that managed to slip through the cracks of the mainstream media.
When David Patterson was called into action after the falling of Elliot Spitzer there were some other personnel changes, but these were not related to the scandal of Mr. Spitzer, there was another agenda behind these. The Governor’s photographer during Spitzer's time as well as previous Governors was a white male, but when Patterson took over his staff approached this employee and in laymen terms told him he was losing his job because he wasn’t like the Governor and then they hired a black photographer to replace him. Well, obviously the photographer had cause for a lawsuit and went forward with one. To avoid bad media exposure for the already 18% approval rate Governor, the case was settled out of court and received minimal media coverage except from the right. What a surprise.
The majority of the media that is out there is very liberal and I know that these are only small isolated examples of how news is covered, but it happens more often that you think. If enough people believe what they see in their news outlets they are going to believe that it is the truth. I’m not saying that the right is always going to be the truth but we need to start seeing more exposure of what is really going on, not the left’s agenda of how things should be.
